Thoracic Surgery

Specializing in the treatment of both surgical and nonsurgical conditions of the organs and structures within the chest and chest wall, both cancerous and non-cancerous.

Our board-certified thoracic surgeons bring unique skills to our team of specialists, working closely with our pulmonary and cardiology physicians, nurses, respiratory and physical therapists, and medical and radiation oncologists to create the most appropriate treatment plan for each individual patient.

Depending on the condition, some thoracic procedures can be performed using minimally invasive techniques like laparoscopic surgery (surgery using cameras), endoscopy or bronchoscopy.

White Plains Hospital’s thoracic surgery program offers minimally invasive procedures for implanting diaphragmatic pacemakers in patients with spinal cord injuries and certain muscular dystrophies, freeing them from dependence upon ventilators for breathing.

For patients with other conditions, or for those who do not meet the requirements for minimally invasive surgery, traditional open surgery remains an option.
