Kirk Sperber, MD

About

Dr. Kirk Sperber is an allergist and immunologist specializing in food allergy, food desensitization, allergic rhinitis, refractory asthma, eczema, hives, contact dermatitis, drug allergy, and immunodeficiency. He has decades of experience treating patients from infancy to adults in academic, community, and private practice settings.

After concluding his medical studies and a residency in internal medicine at Rutgers, where he was chief resident, he completed a clinical and research fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he was part of the food allergy and immunodeficiency groups. Dr. Sperber was the Revson Fellow for Biomedical Research and the recipient of the Irma T. Hirschl Career Development Award, and was chief of the Allergy Clinic and the assistant director of the Clinical Immunology Laboratory. He has treated inner-city asthmatics in Spanish Harlem and is bilingual. He went on to get a master’s degree in Public Health from Columbia University.

Dr. Sperber has published over 100 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals and was an associate editor of the Journal of Immunology. He is board certified and re-certified in internal medicine, allergy and immunology, clinical and laboratory immunology and public health. He has master’s degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from New York Medical College, Clinical Research from the Icahn School of Medicine, and medical ethics from Fordham.

He is a past president of the New York Allergy and Asthma Society and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. He is currently an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College in the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology. Dedicated to teaching, Dr. Sperber was part of the faculty for medical residents and Allergy and Immunology fellows at Mount Sinai Hospital. He has taught immunology, internal medicine, and medical ethics and has been a member of medical student, graduate student, resident, and fellowship selection committees at the Ichan School of Medicine and New York Medical College. He served on the board of trustees at Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx from 2017-2023, where he advised on STEM programming and COVID protocols. He also enjoys judging science competitions on behalf of The Ursuline School in New Rochelle.

Dr. Sperber’s clinical interests include immunodeficiency, food allergies, allergic rhinitis, asthma, eczema, drug allergies, urticaria, contact dermatitis, eosinophilic disorders and autoimmunity.
