About

Jimmy Chan, MD is a double-fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand/upper extremity and sports medicine/joint preservation surgery. Dr. Chan provides care to patients across all ages and all-activity levels using the most up-to-date, minimally invasive surgical and non-surgical treatments.

Dr. Chan received his bachelor's degree at Brown University before going on to earn his medical degree with distinction in clinical research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic residency at Mount Sinai Health System in New York City and was named administrative chief resident. Dr. Chan further obtained fellowship training in hand and upper extremity at Harvard Medical School/BIDMC, as well as a second fellowship in sports medicine/shoulder surgery/cartilage restoration at renowned Midwest Orthopedics at Rush. During his time in Chicago, Dr. Chan served as an assistant team physician for Chicago Bulls (NBA), Chicago White Sox (MLB), Chicago Fire (MLS), Chicago Steel (USHL), and local colleges and high schools.

Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Chan also actively participates in research and education. Dr. Chan has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS-Am), the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM), Journal of Hand Surgery (JHS-Am), Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (JSES), the Journal of Cartilage & Joint Preservation (JCJP), and Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine (RAPM).

Dr. Chan is also an active member of multiple orthopedic societies such as the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). This allows him to present and be involved with the most cutting-edge technique and research in orthopedics.

In addition to English, Dr. Chan is also a native speaker in Mandarin.
